The Mahi Way!

The Indian Cricket captain has got every cricket trophy in his bag.(World Cup2011,T20 WC 2007,VB series win in Australia, IPL victory 2010,Champions League victory 2010,IPL Victory 2011)He is the new Poster of indian Cricket.One often wonders what seperates him from the other captains we have had.Let us deconstruct the success behind India's most successful captain.

Leader Leads With Example
He has imbibed this principle really well.In the World Cup Final ,when India's openers went to pavillion for less runs he stepped onto the field.Despite having a poor world cup (string of low scores),he put himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh (Inform Player in the Tournament) ,when everybody in India expected the latter.He then went to score 91 runs along with Yuvraj and completed the chase with a Six
  It really takes courage on part of a leader to come forward when Your team needs he more.So in these circumstances , it is a real test of a true leader in which Mahi (name by which he is fondly called) has excelled.When Your leader leads by example he automatically earns respect of his teammates.


A Leader Listens really well
A Leader should have participative leadership style.He should be open to new ideas and new opinions given by his teammates all the time.In one of the excerpts in an interview,Harbhajan Singh told that Mahi listens to opinions of even Pravin kumar (a non regular in the team) and applies them on the field if he feels them right.

A Leader stays calm amidst Trying Circumstances
when a leader stays calm in difficult circumstances it rubs off on his team.A leader stays calm ,his team can play really well.A calm leader soaks all the pressure in the trying circumstances  and his teammates are unaffected by it .For eg.when Misbah Ul Haq went wild in the 18th & 19th over in the T20 WC Final ,he gave the final over to Joginder Sharma(who became the last over hero) Or in the IPL 2010 Final when Pollard scored 23 runs of first five balls in the 18th over ,he positioned Albie Morkel just behind the bowler  then pollard got caught.He has been a astute decision maker in difficlut circumstances which have helped his team win many matches.

A Leader selects his team well.
A leader knows what resources does he need in order to complete his tasks.When a leader selects his team well he assigns role to each team mate.Consequently each person is clear about what the team expects him to be.This imbibes more clarity in the execution of plans more effectively.In this context,Mahi selected the same team with which they had won  IPL 2010.This saved them much time to know each other and cultivate team bonding which were already generated in the last 3 years of IPL.Consequently,their team was a very well gelled unit and was te best team in the tournament.

Following is meteoric rise in Cricket from his debut in International 2003 to winnng the Cricket World Cup after 28 years has done all the right things as a captain,hopefully we can incorporate his qualities and Go the Mahi Way!!
